The Jiangsu Laboratory Alliance was unveiled on Thursday with a view to implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping"s important speech made during his inspection tour to Jiangsu, and better playing the fundamental role of the province"s laboratories in scientific and technological innovation, industrial services, and talent cultivation.

The Jiangsu Provincial Laboratory Alliance, led by Suzhou Laboratory, is composed of state key laboratories and some provincial key laboratories with a view to promoting the interaction between laboratories and regional characteristic parks, industry backbone enterprises and guide the rational flow and efficient agglomeration of laboratory innovation elements.

The establishment of the Laboratory Alliance is also aimed at establishing an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and integrated innovation cooperation mechanism, as well as a transfer and transformation mechanism for scientific research achievements so as to provide strong support for Jiangsu to achieve high-level technological self-reliance and build a globally influential industrial technology innovation center.

55 laboratories in Jiangsu joined the alliance. Jiangsu has one national laboratory, more than 40 State Key Laboratory, three provincial laboratories, and more than 140 provincial key laboratories.

Targeting different sub-fields, the Jiangsu Provincial Laboratory Alliance will follow the "1+N" model to build several field alliances, promote communication, cooperation, and collaborative innovation.

The laboratory alliance will also play the role of a "think tank" and an "innovation consortium" by proposing major task guidelines for major basic research, major technological breakthroughs, and major industrial cultivation needs, and organizing advantageous forces to carry out joint research.
